When a lot is happening and life feels uncertain, it can be especially important for children to hear, "there is a plan." We've gathered questions for parents to consider before and during the separation to create a plan for the coming weeks and months.
Whether you can collaborate on a plan for the children or if you're handling things alone, having a plan shows that you are there for them and that they don't need to take responsibility for what's happening. That's the adults' job.
Questions to consider and agree upon for the upcoming weeks and months might include:
Create a list in the app and write down your current agreement as it stands. This way, both of you can stay on the same page.
Be humble about not having all the answers. That's okay. You can answer as best you can based on what you know right now. You can say something like, "I don't know all the details yet, but I/we adults will handle it. You don't need to worry about it. When I know more, I/we will let you know."
